Active Bystander Training

Active Bystander Training teaches hospitality staff to identify problematic behaviors of aggressors in alcohol-serving spaces, understand and overcome the barriers to taking action as a bystander, and empowers them to intervene proactively, responsively, and safely. Our goal is to help teams create safe spaces for patrons and staff alike.

WE HELP ALCOHOL-SERVING SPACES CREATE SAFE, WELCOMING,
AND RESPECTFUL ENVIRONMENTS FOR THEIR PATRONS AND STAFF.

Following SafeBars innovative programming, we provide the foundation
and catalyst for necessary change in the hospitality and nightlife industry.

WHY WE FOCUS ON ALCOHOL-SERVING SPACES

At least half of all sexual assaults involve alcohol consumption by the aggressor, the target, or both, making alcohol-serving spaces and the hospitality industry as a whole a critical platform to address sexual violence. Though alcohol consumption and sexual assault frequently happen together, alcohol use doesn’t cause sexual assault.

The link is complicated, and it’s important to understand the nuances of this relationship to prevent sexual assault and avoid victim-blaming more effectively. Given the relationship between alcohol and sexual assault, we must build a safer culture in bars, restaurants, breweries, distilleries, clubs, conferences, events, and other alcohol-related spaces that don’t tolerate harassment or assault.
